Cabana Istvana Balvanyos

Located in an absolutely superb setting, Istvana Tourist Cabin is situated at the foot of the Medieval Fortress of Balvanyos Citadel. Balvanyos Baths represent a permanent balneoclimatic resort, located on the southern slope of the Bodoc Mountains, in the curve of the Carpathians, at an altitude of 840 m - 950 m and 22 km away from Targu Secuiesc. Due to the therapeutic properties of numerous mineral springs and post-volcanic emanations (mofettes), the resort offers guests ideal conditions for rest and treatment. Thanks to the volcanic and sedimentary rocks in the soil, the emissions of carbon dioxide and hydrogen sulfide have favored the emergence of several mineral water springs used in the treatment of stomach and intestinal disorders, heart conditions, and vascular system disorders. Here, both the water and the gas have relatively high natural radioactivity. The cabin has 8 rooms with private bathroom (5 double rooms and 3 triple rooms), 3 apartments with 4 rooms each (2 double rooms, 2 triple rooms), and 5 camping cabins with a communal bathroom. The cabin also houses a Restaurant-Bar for approximately 50 people, as well as a covered outdoor terrace for around 100 people. Since 2011, an outdoor swimming pool will also be open. Among the tourist attractions are: Balvanyos Fortress (one of the oldest fortifications in the region), Lake Saint Ana (the only volcanic lake in Romania), the deep caves in the volcanic blocks (Pucioasa Cave, Ursului Cave, Timsos Cave, Gyilkos Cave), and the Birds Cemetery. For entertainment, there is the outdoor pool opened in May 2011, organized minibus tours for 8 people, and walks on marked trails.
