Avrig is a town located in the southeastern part of Sibiu County, about 25 km from the city of Sibiu, along the national road DN1 (E68). The locality lies at the foothills of the Făgăraș Mountains, in an area with spectacular sub-mountain landscapes, being an ideal starting point for exploring southern Transylvania.

The most famous tourist attraction in Avrig is the Brukenthal Palace, nicknamed the “Eden of Transylvania,” an 18th-century Baroque ensemble with gardens designed in Viennese style. The area is also appreciated for its proximity to the Transfăgărășan, one of the most spectacular mountain roads in Romania.
